Recently I've upgraded from Windows ME to Windows 2000. I
have a number of games my son used to play but they don't
work now. I've uninstalled & re-installed. One example is
the game by EA "The need for speed-Porsche unleashed". It
seems to load right up to near the end when I get the
following message: 'You have DirectXO. Please install
DirectX7.' "Could not load \drivers\register"
[File=\read\patch3\pc\set3d.c,Line=273]. I downloaded the
latest dx9updatesdk.exe but it didn't solve my problem.
I've even tried a number of gms just for W2000. Same
result. Thanks for any suggestions.

Unless you do a clean install of Windows 2000 there is a fair chance the
remains of Windows ME are causing the difficulty.

I once lent this game from a friend for a while previous
year. On that moment i was running W98 and i had directx8.1
(i think). Anyway, the game always hanged. I had to
downgrade my Nvidia drivers (i had a TNT2 32MB) seriously
to let this awesome game work. Maybe a solution ?
