Is Directx 8 or 9 already part of XPe or is it something that I install
after a image is created?

DirectX 9.0C is included with XPE SP2... it's a component you add to the
configuration and is built in at runtime.

There are QFE's and such that allow one to update XPE and DX components
after the image is built, but the base package is built into the catalog.

Hi Jason,

Once you have a Full Version of the toolkit, you can go to
https://microsoft.embeddedoem.com and register for secure access. Once you
have that registraion you can access the site and download QFE's. QFE's
import into the component database, either updating or replacing existing
components. there is usually a 3 week lag between QFE's released for XP Pro
and releases for XPE. if it's a critical update, you can use the Desktop QFE
installer to install QFE's for XP pro to your xpe runtime images. others are
added to the catalog, and built into the image. you can add QFE's as well to
runtime images using DUA or one of the other update methods for XPE.
