DirectX problems

Hello,

I am having a problem with direct x, as you probably
guessed from the subject. The first time I open a driectX
app, it work properly, but then if I open another directx
app without restarting, my computer freezes and I get a
blue screen complaining about nv4_disp.

I have an AthlonXP running windows XP with an Asus
Geforce V9480.

Any help is appreciated.
 
Chris, first the nv4_disp error is usually related to the graphics card
driver, so you need to make sure you're current with Nvidia's drivers from
their web site. Second, DirectX issues should be posted to the proper
DirectX newsgroups, in your case probably microsoft.public.directx.video.
Make sure to give them full details, including which graphics card driver
you're running.
 
I also suggest getting latest nvidia drivers and any new BIOS/drivers for
your motherboard.

This question has been answered a couple times in this newsgroup. If you're
still having issues, please post to the appropriate
microsoft.public.directx.* newsgroup.
 
Just to let everyone know, I found that by uninstalling
the ASUS display drivers and installing the WHQL NVidia
drivers, the problem was fixed.
 
Hi Chris,

That's a very good example of why WHQL drivers
from the manufacturers of the graphic card chipsets
are most often the very best bet. The exception of
course is that some newer games require drivers that
have been updated to support the game, but haven't
completed the full WHQL testing requirements yet.
