directx error

I have recently upgraded my computer from Windows ME to
2000. I have a program that i have tried installing on the
new system. When i try to install it there is a screen
that says i need directx 8.1. I have tried installing it
several times but it does not work.

This may be because the DirectX installer included on the CD rom was
designed for Windows 98, or Windows ME. You can by-pass this entire issue
by updating to DirectX 9.0b which should be available from
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

If you have any trouble installing DirectX from Windows Update, you can try
installing it from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/3/c/73cc71c0-13d9-4274-8d9c-33d8a52
8a396/dxwebsetup.exe.
