I am running windows xp and I may have installed dirextx
9.0 a second time. My computer now reboots during games
and I went back to check on directx and found that
Directplay had an error. Directx notified me that
Directplay had an error last time it was run and would I
like to run the test or not. I choose to skip the test
the first time but then when I tried the test the 2nd
time it immediately reboots the computer. Any work around
would be greatly appreciated.

Rich, could you post your issues to one of the microsoft.public.directx.*
newsgroups? They have some fine minds over there, and would be more apt to
have an quick response. Take a look at the list of DirectX newsgroups -
perhaps the graphics group would be the best one.

Could you try posting an actual url ?

You're using the web-base newsgroup interface, so you'll need to do a Search
from the page. Just put in DirectX, and it should give you a listing of the
newsgroups. You'll need one of the ones in the microsoft.public.directx
list.

If you care to use a news reader (much easier, no logon, no passwords and
available to everyone around the world), just set up a news account for the
msnews.microsoft.com server. It will download all the newsgroup names for
you and the search is really easy. You can do all kinds of things in a news
reader, including hiding all the already read messages. There's guidance in
Outlook Express' Help section, as well as other readers.
