Hi all,

Everytime I boot a W2K Server I receive the following
error message:

Directory Services could not start because of the
following error: The system cannot find the file
specified error status 0x000000f. Please click on ok and
reboot into Directory Services restor mode. Check the
event log for more detail.

I have moved the ntds.dit file to the %SystemRoot%\NTDS
folder and still the error pops up.

Can you advise ASAP!!

Thanking you in adance

Daniel

This can be from either a restore being done that puts the ntds.dit file in
different location that the machine thinks it is in, permissions on the ntds
folder.file not being adaquate, corrupted file, etc. Check the perms and
make sure that at least system and admins have FC on the folder and ntds.dit
file itself first. Then boot into ds restore mode and run
ntdsutil/files/info to compare what it says the AD thinks the location is
for the database, logs, etc with what you actually see in the registry under
hklm/system/services/ntds/parameters. If everything looks to be ok there,
I'd recommend doing a system state restore from your backup.
(wasn't sure what you meant when you said you "moved" the file to that
folder though)
