Do you have a second dc in your domain? This could allow you the ease of
doing a metadata cleanup and repromoting this dc. If not it sounds lik eyou
will have to go through a DS restore procedure. Do you have a system state
backup of this dc?

Paul, i don't have 2nd DC. Do you mean 2nd dc can be replicated from
the 1st dc ? how to do DS restore procedure ? even i boot using DS
restore mode during startup, it will also prompt the error and ask me
to reboot again. The thing is i don't have system state data backup.

If you don't have a system state backup and you don't have a second dc to
replicate changes back to your problem dc I think you are going to have to
start over.

Sorry I can;t provide any more assistance.

You install Windows again, either in parallel or as a fresh build. You then
restore from tape.

If you only need to restore the System State, perform a parallel install and
do it that way. If you need to restore C, you can do either. A fresh-build
is probably recommended.

You should refer to your backup software vendor's website/ helpfile for
specific instructions.

Paul, if i dont have system state data then no point using parallel
install right ?

A dual install on the same machine. For example a winnt on c: and winnt2 on
e:. At boot up time a prompt pops up and asks which to bring up and if no
selection is made it chooses whatever the default one is.

Well you could possibly use it to recover non-AD data on the disk. If this
is an AD only DC then I see no value in this.
