directory - mshtml.dll

Guest

Like a number of people who have written in, I too have had the problem of
receiving the message - sorry for the inconvenience... that closes IE6 when I
click, usually the second, hyperlink to or from a website. Following
Microsoft's instructions, I tried reregistering the listed DLLs. All but one
reregistered. For MSHTML.DLL I got the following message - MSHTML.DLL was
loaded by DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found. File cannot by
registered. I am assuming that this is my problem. How do I fix it?

If this happened on a new install then may be you have a bad RAM on your
computer so try to test the RAM or Swap them around and see if that will help.
Again did check for malwares and Viruses on your computer by scanning.
Try to update and get the latest Security patches from MS that may help
eliminate it, also try to Disable Third-Party browser under the Advanced Tab
and then reregister that DLL by typing this in the Run command:
regsvr32 mshtml.dll click [OK] and Reboot your machine and see.

There is a HotFix for this on MS, so if the above didn't apply or solve your
issue you need to try the Fix.

The RAM is not new. I have run Norton anti-virus, have the latest updates,
though I will check again to be sure - to tell you the truth, the only time I
seem to have problems with this computer is after some of the updates have
been downloaded, so I am a bit leary about downloading them - I had already
unchecked third party browser and I just tried to reregister mshtml, with the
same result. As for sites with custom pop-ups, Microsoft.com is a site that I
have had trouble moving around in without having the program close. Same with
Annoyances.com.

I will let you know if any of your other suggestions work

I will run a through scan on this machine in both Normal and safe Mode if I'm
you and Test the memory from here:
http://www.memtest86.org/
Also run this command:
sfc /scannow

Nass,

memtest86 just has some listings for software. What am I missing? Also, I
tried to run sfc/scannow and sfc/scannow HTH, neither of which would run.

Nass, I have downloaded a couple of the registry fix programs and ran their
scans, but I have not bought either and removed them from the computer. Are
they worth it? If so, would they resolve this problem?

You don't need a registry fix they don't do any good, in fact they harm you
if you don't know how to use them.
Download the ZIP file and unzip to make a bootable CD to test the Memory:
http://www.memtest86.com/

About the Command there is a space between the :
sfc_/scannow ( _ = Space )
Did you scanned in both modes for malwares and Viruses and also run a Disk
CleanUp then Defrag your System.

Hi Nass,

I think our local cable provider's hamster died resulting in a very slow
internet connection... But, the curious thing is, the problem seems to be
resolved, and I am not sure why. Hopefully it remains that way.

I do not have software on this computer to scan for malware. I intend to
check into it and scan as you suggest. You echoed my feelings about software
that messes with the directory. The only concern that I have is the two trial
scans that I tried found a lot of pathless files, mostly from old software
that had been removed or replaced. Defrag doesn't seem to do anything with
them.

Your help has been much appreciated. Have a great weekend!

Hi Idaho,
Here are some software to download to scan for malware and they are free:
For Malwares download both these software:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D

Also for the Orphans left behind Files try and use this tool:
http://www.ccleaner.com
But be careful when using the ccleaner, as this tool can very useful in
cleaning junk, malwares, viruses and hard to delete files/programs, it can be
pain if you used it wrongly by telling it to delete something belong to the
system, so read the Help file comes with it to know how to use it.
