I open the directory for a folder. I want to take the
data on that screen, the file titles, the size, the date,
and time saved, and copy it over to a file that will put
the data into columns, like excel.
The purpose is then to be able to organize the file names
and details for another report.
All I can get is a 'picture' of the directory. Any ideas
on how I can get the details to columns that can be
sorted, etc? Thanks. Dennis Lewis

A simple way is to use Outlook (98 or later, but not XP or 2003). On the
Outlook Bar select Other Shortcuts and then click on My Computer (or My
Documents if you just want the contents of My Documents). Navigate to the
required Folder and there you have your Folder contents in a columnar
layout. You can edit the columns that you want to print.

See the article "Insert into a document the names of all files in a selected
folder" at:

To follow up on Doug's comments. You could print this to a file which could
be imported into Word or Excel. For more than this, you'll need to write a
vba procedure (macro) to put the info into a Word table. That is probably
more work than it is worth to you.
