I have just noticed several directories in the root directory of C:
drive. I checked the names with Google and the ones I've checked are
all apparently valid directories used by windows XP or installed
programs. I have just had a low disk space warning and rebooted and
cleaned up the C: drive. Could this have resulted in directories that
are normally sub directories of Windows or other directories being
moved or copied to the root directory?

Thanks
Mike

Windows XP defaults to hiding most program files and system files. If you
just noticed several directories that you don't remember seeing before, most
likely your view settings got changed. It's always good advice to scan for
virus activity frequently. However, I suspect that you have nothing to
worry about. -Dave
