Since downloading Direct X from the Windows update site,
my computer will not shut down & keeps re-starting till I
turn it off manually, any help would be appreciated,

If you aren't able to fix your shutdown problem, you could restore your
system from System Restore, if you have a restore point that is reasonably
recent.

Microsoft recommends setting a restore point before installing DitectX -
it's in the notes accompanying the download on Windows Update.

Let me pass on a lesson that I learned the hard way: Don't install anything
before you read all the accompanying information.
