Windows XP Direct X Files missing

Hello everyone, i got sort of a major problem...
U see, i powered up one morning only to find that my Direct X files are either missing or corrupt. And like a idiot i hadnt bothered to make a backup at all. I have tried to reinstall Direct X, but eveytime i try the installer says that the location is not trustworthy and i cant install it.

I can see my wall paper and alt-tab-del brings up the task manager, but i can run any programs and i cant seem to restore to an earlier time.
Any one have a clue on how to set things right? i would rather not have to resort to a reinstallation. thanks in advance!

You can re-install Windows over itself ... Dirty Install ... you will have to re-install drivers and software, but your data will be intact.
