Heyme

Hi there,
Anybody out there who would know if it is possible to use a LAN cable
directly between my PC's to hook these up? I tried the networking,
which only mentions the Infrared, parallel and COM1 cable connections,
and tried to give my PC's static IP's, but there just is no signal
between the 2 pc's when I insert the LAN cable in both ethernet
adapters..
One PC is a XP laptop, the other is a W2000 desktop.
Would appreciate some light in the darkness..
Thx,
Heyme

You will need a crossover cable. A straight through cable will not
work.

"cat 5 crossover" in google with the quotes. $5 and up depending on
length.

You can do it, but you'll need a crossover cable rather than a normal
straight through ethernet cable.

The most common types of ethernet cables have this sort of pinout
(when looking at the bottom part of the rj45 jack). a straight through
cable would have this pinout on both ends.

To create a crossover you'll need to have one end as described above,
and the other end as described below.

Yes you can connect two PCs but you need a special "crossover" cable to
connect them. A normal 10-base-T cable won't work. Also, it
sometimes helps to fix the speed and duplex of the connection at both
ends via the network control panel or device manager for the NIC
("auto" setting is unreliable in this configuration).
