fix some problems she has. i want to run virus scan and
update her files. her trouble is that she cannot get
online for whatever reason, to be determined. i have
never networked without a router and she has no network
card. do i specifically need a "direct connection" cable
with the electronics or will a standard parallel cable do?
You need a special cable. See:
http://www.wown.info/j_helmig/dccmain.htm
.
ethernetuser
DCC cable is a special parallel cable, for two way
comunications between two PC's,and you can't replace it
with a regular parallel.
second,if your sister's pc does't have a nic, why not
install one? it only cost $10.00,for a 10/100mbs(if her
pc have a spare pci slot on the motherboard)it will make
life much easyer.so you can use ethernet at higher data
transfer speed then the parallel connections.
if you'r going to use ethernet connections, you will
need a 10/100base T ethernet card and a cat5/5e crossover
cable.(to connect two pc's without a hub/switch in
between)
