This is the problem.....

I use a cable modem to connect to the internet. When I try to host a game in Links 2003 and Madden 2004, another user is not able to connect directy to my computer with my IP address, the same if he host the game, I am not able to connect to his machine. The setup is the same as far as ISP connection. Firewall has been disabled, we are running McAffee anti-virus. Already scanned with Ad-ware.

Please Help as soon as possible.

First, don't disable your firewall. That's only making your computer
susceptible to become a "server" for many of the virus/worms floating
around. Read the documentation about which ports should be opened for the
applications and use only those properly. Are you both running the same
versions of the software, and updated to DirectX 9? Information on Links
2003 ports required is here:

I understand your concern about the firewall being down. But that still does not solve my problem. If I cannot connect with the firewall down and all ports open, what insures me that I can connect with the firewall on and just opening those ports? Any more suggestions? I would appreciate it.

Some firewalls (ZoneAlarm springs immediately to mind) are not completely
disabled just by using the disable options.

If you are running something like that, it may be worth uninstalling it
temporarily to test. Just don't forget to reinstall it afterwards.

The firewall I am using would be the one XP has built in to it. Thanks for the help, still looking for a good answer. It just makes me mad that you can get high speed internet and not benefit from it.

One more thing, I have tried to do a "Test DirectPlay" in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. The other user was not able to connect to me and I was not able to connect to that user when he was connected. Thought I would mention that
