I have searched without success for a small app that could run on two (win)
PCs to allow you to access one filesystem from the other, without having to
manually set tcp/ip addresses to get it to work. Yes, I am aware of Ms DCC
but it is far from trouble-free and any "give-away" versions of Laplink do
not work on Xp.

Ideally it would be a single exe that would ask to run as host or guest and
then open a window to the other computers hard disk through a serial
parallel or usb port.

Is there such a freeware app available?

Thanks
Trevor

How about this? http://www.realvnc.com/what.html

VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing. It is remote control
software which allows you to view and interact with one computer (the
"server") using a simple program (the "viewer") on another computer
anywhere on the Internet. The two computers don't even have to be the
same type, so for example you can use VNC to view an office Linux
machine on your Windows PC at home. VNC is freely and publicly
available and is in widespread active use by millions throughout
industry, academia and privately.

You can use Total Commander, but that is not freeware.
You can find it here:

On the addon-page there is a freeware dos app that works.

That certainly does NOT solve the OP's request. Explicitly requested was
the ability to share file systems. VNC doesn't do that.

As I suspected there are no freeware apps that can do it!! Bah...back to
payware again.
Thanks anyway

And why would that be?

The main reason is the extremely bad misformatting of quoted text.
Quoting is a fairly important feature of any newsreader.
I use Outlook Express in newsgroups without OE-Quotefix. I never
have trouble and everyone seems to be able to read my posts.

This is because you tend to snip very well, leaving only a couple
of lines or so of quoted text for OE to misformat.

In fact, I've tried OE-Quotefix and it does way too much to suit
me.

Is there no way to turn off the other features but leave the
quote-fixing in place?
