Hello, 'trying to help a good friend.

He's got this dinosaur, 150mhz. 'won't get a new PC and personally, I agree, no
need to when I consider what he uses it for. (he's almost totally PC
Illiterate.)

Someone at his job can get him old RAM from old PCs that'll end up in the trash
can most likely.

What are the most likely candidates for RAM modules? Memory Type? Pins?

Thanks in advance for any help, or even a URL that might have an online guide
to dinosaurs.

Most such computers used 72 pin DIMM memory. Knowing what model the MB
was would enable you to seek the manual, and that would tell you
everything you needed to know.

As for the MB, hehe, I knew that one, but after 6-7 years? errrr, we don't
even remember whom he purchased it from.

Plus, I don't trust him to open up his own casing and look. He's liable to
short or shock the MB with static.

Most likely 72 pin EDO SIMMs, some motherboards of that era do take the
early SDRAM modules (16 or 32MB) but those are rare.

Hmmm, I'm glad you posted (& thanks).
I know I had a total of 64mb in there before I gave it to him so long ago. With
the information you folks have given me so far, I think this IT guy at his job
will be able to come up with something.

......ya think?

Most MBs identify themselves on the screen when they boot (mfg and model) or
you can use AIDA32 (free software) to identify the MB and/or the memory.

Most probably is EDO RAM but someone should try to open up casing cover
and inspect the RAM.

yes, well, I'll be passing by this weekend to inspect it all.

Unfortunately, one of the worst things about PNY (and maybe others?) is that
all too often, their modules are unmarked. Thus, to the layman, one looks
exactly like any other except for variations in length and such.

will post my results.

thanks all for the insights offered.

There is a good chance that the machine is maxed out. 64M was a lot for
that era.

Not really, I previous old machine (200mhz) has more than that ...
To the OP, the EDO RAM only works in pair, which mean if you getting
another 64MB of RAM, you need to buy 2 sticks 32MB.
