i currently have 2x512mb ddr400 by ocz.. i went and bought 1gb of memory
(2x512mb) by mushkin. however, i didn't realize that ocz are dimm and the
new mushkin are simm. is it ok or not to have simm and dimm? wanna make
sure before install.. thanks

You need the type of memory that your motherboard manufacturer stipulates.
Check your documentation.

If you use the on-line memory configurator, that many memory manufacturers
have on their web sites, you will be certain of getting the correct memory.
If you "free lance" (choose what YOU think is correct) you may not.

Both Crucial and Corsair memory are guaranteed for life (who's life) if you
use their on-line memory configurators. Others may have the same warranty.

It's a very rare motherboard that will support both form factors
simultaneously. What does your computer's manual have to say on the
subject?

It is absolutely essential that any new RAM module(s) be fully
compatible with both the motherboard and/or any other RAM module(s)
already in the system. Additionally, there are sometimes jumper
switches on older motherboards that need to be reset for new RAM
configurations. Consult your motherboard's manual or the manufacturer's
web site for specific instructions and compatibility requirements.

If you cannot lay your hands upon the computer's manual and the
manufacturer doesn't provide a support web site, you can use these
utilities to help determine the correct type of RAM needed:

SiSoft's Sandra

Belarc Advisor

Unlimited Possibilities' AIDA32

Lavalys' Everest Home

Also, Crucial Memory's web site (www.crucial.com) has a database
to help to find the right RAM for your specific make and model
computer and/or motherboard.

The SIMM and DIMM form factors are not even close. ***NO***

You're correct about the differing form factors, but there have
actually been motherboards that contained both types of slots. (But I
don't recall any of them ever supporting both types of RAM simultaneously.)
