I was awarded a digital video camera through a grant for my math class at
school. I use it to make short video movies of kids, and post it on my web
page at school. I am having problems as it works at school, and on my
computer at home, but most of my kids tell me the movie does not work at
their home:

I use PowerPoint 2000 and inserted the movie as an object so that when I
click on the picture, it changes to a WMP and plays the movie clip.
Sometimes it plays, sometimes it freezes. I have been working on this for 3
weeks and don't know what else to do.

the movies are made using a Panasonic DV 203 and the software is Movie
Messenger but converts it to the WMP file.
Please give any help you can???
thanks

One cause might be the version of Windows Media Player that you are using?
Is it WMP 9?

I can't find what version it is, but I know it was the latest upgrade. Does
this mean that the kids would all have to have the same version as I used??
Do you have a suggestion of how I can show the movie with minimal problems?
I first tried to just use insert movie from file, but ran into problems here
too. For some reason, I could not get it to look in the folder where I had
my web page stored in Front Page to load.
thanks for any help you can give

Now you're introducing another factor, so let's stop and get the full
picture. Do you mean that you are putting your presentation on a webpage
where students will click on a link to play it? Has it been converted to
HTML, or is it a link to a .PPT or .PPS file?

sorry about the confusion:
I have a web page that students click a hyperlink to the pps lesson. I have
tried 2 methods:
1. I put the pps and the movie in the same folder on our school server, but
that did not work. (it would not let me insert the movie from the same
folder) then, I put them (the movie and pps) in separate folders and linked
the movie to pps but I could not get it to work correctly. so then I...
2. Inserted the movie as an object. It would then play on the school
computer, my home computer, but not all students could open it. It goes
downhill from here...I then messed it up so it won't even work on my home
computer, but I can fix it Monday when I go back to work. I just don't
understand why most of the kids can not open it. They say it freezes and
will not open.

If the kids have home systems that don't have Windows Media Playeer 9
installed, the movie won't play for them. At least that's been my
experience. You are more likely to be successful if you can convert the
movie to an AVI format.

Have you tried saving the presentation as a Web Page and loading that on the
server? That might work better for you and the kids and the movie should
play correctly.

Hello Dee,

Because of the many system dependencies for media playback in PowerPoint,
it can be a challenge to identify, understand and resolve those
dependencies.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) have some suggestions how
PowerPoint could/should make it easier to create multimedia presentations
that are as system independent as possible (perhaps only allow one type of
audio/video format and encoding?), don't forget to send your feedback to
Microsoft at:

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
