Digital Vibrance on Radeon

Just bought a 9800Pro and after being a nvidia user for years, I really miss
the digital vibrance feature. I can't achieve the same result by modifying
the color channels in the catalyst drivers either... does anyone know if
there's a program/hack that will give the same result on ATI cards as
digital vibrance does on geforce? Or if anyone know what settings to fiddle
with in catalyst to give the same warm colours?

You and me both. I asked around as well and came up with diddley. After a few
months you don't miss it. The DV of Nvidia was outstanding and I had gotten used
to pumping it up a bit.. but with ATI you can't get that effect sadly.

The *only* thing I miss about Nvidia is their Digital Viberance mode. It really
made EVERYTHING look sooo good. :(

Yeah I miss this as well, but I've got a similar feature built in to the
IIyama VM Pro413 - just press a button for a few seconds and the screen
becomes more vibrant for use with video, TV and games - very nice.

Still does anyone know why digital vibrance can't/wont be used on ATI cards
e.g. technical, licensing etc.?

BTW the picture quality of the 9700 np I'm using is noticeably better than
my old GF3 Ti200.

Looks like they have a trademark on that feature and it's something that ATI
can't 'borrow'. Shame really, since the difference is amazing. The first few
days I had my ATI 9700 PRO I thought my desktop background looked BLACK AND
WHITE compared to it! It's that much of a difference. The split screen example
on the site shows what I mean.

You're right about the picture quality though.. ATI has that nailed.

I'm still using a GF4 and I have to say I don't understand why some
people like that feature. On my LCD monitor the colours look fake and
too saturated when I turn on digital vibrance. I guess it's the same
with people and their TV's though, many people boost the colour to the
point where it looks over saturated too. When I look around me in the
real world the colours are not all bright and garrish, the colours are
more muted and I guess that's how I like my monitor to look too. :-)

I use a CRT monitor and didn't raise the digital vibrance much.. just to the 2nd
notch if I remember correctly. Even if you set it only half way it gets way over
saturated like you say. There is a fine balance and once you set it.. it's very
impressive.

I miss it big time.

I agree that it's too much if you use it on high setting, but I used to
knock it up just one level and it was great :) One example is the vacation
pics I took this summer... I watched them at a friends place (he use a
geforce) and u could really see how sunny it was the day I took the pics...
later at home, I checked them out with my 9800pro and they all look like
they were taken on a grey, cloudy day...

There is an app called Colorific that may solve that problem for you,
but it costs money. It's made by the same company that makes the 3Deep
app that is bundled with many vid cards, which I don't use. But I
remember getting Colorifc with a GF3 made bt Creative and it was a
really useful little app, especially if you do digital photography.

Wonder if "Colorific" (which I got on one of my numerous Nvidia install
disc's) will work with my 9700pro. I did like that DV. ah, not enough to
switch tho :).

Colorific and 3deep will work on any video card. Actually was more impressed
with the free version of 3deep on the site. Thanks for the link Gnasher!
