Hi:
While I was reading newspaper today, I noticed a following ad. regarding
'The Slide and Negative to Digital Picture Converter'

The web-site is as follows:

Since there are many 'old' slide and negative in my room, I am VERY
interested to purchasing this Converter. However, before doing this, I
would
like to have opinions from folks who love photoes.

Sounds pretty neat...only problem is...
scanning slides and negatives is all it's
good for.

I guess you are aware that there have
been scanners with adapters for scanning
slides and negatives for quite some time?

Take a look at the Epson V700 - it's is a flatbed scanner as well as a
negative/slide scanner,
and has a quality that rivals drum scanners - it's prodcues better results
than most dedicated slide scanners.

That's not new, I've had a scanner that will handle negatives & slides for 3
or 4 years.

However, I want the Converter up to $200. I can not afford
too expensive Converter.

I want to know about quality and all others if you could provide.

Also, is it easy to use? Or, does this Converter come everything I need to
hook-up? How about soft-ware for this Converter?

How did you get this Converter? According to the ad., I need to order for
that.

I can't offer any advice on this hardware. Just wanted to add that you
should plan on spening a LOT of time digitizing your slides. The tray on
this device looks like it might hold about 5 slides and also looks like you
will have to manually slide it to the mext slide. I very much doubt that it
will scan "instantly". It may start instantly, but it will probably take 60
seconds to scan each slide. Depending on how many slides you have (I have
thousands of slides) you should expect to spend a lot of time on your
project. If ytou have a lot of slides, you might consider letting Walmart do
the scanning (assuming you live near a Walmart). For $100 you can get a lot
of slides scanned by them. They do send them somewhere, however, so there is
a small risk of them getting lost. I have an old HP Photsmart slide scanner
and scanned over 1000 slides of my children growing up. It scanned at 2400
dpi. The quality was pretty good and did allow some cropping. It just took a
loooooong time.

It's worth pointing out that slide and negative scanners (like the HP
PhotoSmart S20, etc.) are available for a pittance on eBay...
