I've been using Windows mail for a couple weeks now with no problems except
for today. When I clicked send, I got a message saying, "To send a signed
or encrypted message, you must first obtain a digital ID for this account."
The message wasn't "signed" nor "encrypted". Why has this happened and how
can I correct the problem? Thanks.

Sorry, we don't give those out.
What makes you think you need a digital ID?

In Windows Mail, go to "Help | View Help". In the search box at the top,
enter "digital id". Select "Using digital IDs to sign or encrypt Windows
Mail messages". There are instructions there.

hello everyone!

can someone please tell me how to set up my windows e-mail?

I see you posted with a Hotmail account.
In February, Microsoft enabled POP access for free Hotmail/Live/MSN accounts.
Follow the settings given here:
http://mailcall.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!CC9301187A51FE33!49799.entry
Use port 587 rather than port 25 for the SMTP server.

Although it accepts the newer Live.com addresses, Windows Mail's
account setup wizard is hard-coded to reject Hotmail and MSN addresses.
To get around that, when you enter your Hotmail/MSN email address initially,
use a fake one, such as (e-mail address removed). After the account setup is complete,
go back and correct your email address.
