I have an Olympus D490 and the Camedia Master software does not work.
The software was not set up for XP. It does not work at all. If I upgrade
the software from Olympus online source, will it work to transfer images?
Please help.

If you got version 2 of Camedia, there is an update at Olympus' website to
2.1, which I believe works OK with XP. Olympus is pretty stingy about
upgrades...there is version 2.5 which works fine (with, again the update
patch) with XP, but no way to download it from Olympus. If you check with
one of the Yahoo Olympus groups, you may find a link to 2.5. If you get
2.5, be sure to completely uninstall 2 or it won't work properly.

If it's just for downloading, you're much better off buying a $15 USB
smartmedia reader, especially since the 490 has only the slow serial
connection. I keep a copy of Camedia installed for the panorama stitching
feature (and identifying the pano photos), and for the barrel/pincushion
distortion fix...other than that, it's a sluggish and troublesome program to
use regularly.
