Looking for a utility to transfer pix from a digicam or smartcard reader,
rename them according to a predefined template and then delete the
originals from the source. Suitable for Win98SE.

Anyone?

OK, I'm confused... More than normal, that is.

Well, actually it does. If you go to Options > Transfer > File renaming
you'll see it. You use a formula like "DSCN%{num:4}.%{ext}" to specify the
name you want. You could do this by replacing "DSCN" with "holiday."
However, you'll need to change this for every batch of pictures, I assume
not all your pictures are holiday pictures.

IMHO, a better way to do this would be to use a file renamer. Irfanview will
do it too.

I like cam2pc very much. Not many things in it that I'd like to see changed,
but adding "drag'n'drop" would be one.

Thanks for the info, I missed that completely :-)

Drag'n'drop has been added some time ago. Check the latest versions!

Another one that's just great and very similar to Cam2PC is Firegraphic at
www.firegraphic.com . It's a almost a tossup, but I slightly prefer
Firegraphic. That could change with each release. :)

WOW! Thanks for the heads up on Firegraphic Bob. So far it seems to be
just what I was looking for.

Although a Google search reveals a comment in this very group back in
January:

"I just downloaded it from the website you mentioned below and the EULA
does mention that the software installs My Search Toolbar as a
condition of use. I can celled the install."

Will have to look carefully on the next install.

Just checked and no evidence of spyware at all either referenced in the
EULA or found by AdAware.

This program really ought to be Pricelessware!

I never noticed. Maybe my Spybot immunizations zapped it. :)

While I detest Spyware and Adware, I don't necessarily avoid all programs
that package it. It's almost like revenge to download and a good program,
then emasculate the Spyware, then go ahead and use it. Heh heh heh :)

While in the viewer, have you tried the slow left click? Some colored dots
come up, then a honking big menu. Very cool.

Also look at Cam2PC. It's so good I find myself waffling on which one to
use. :)

Early days of course, but so far for me it's Firegraphic every time. The
importing and batch renaming of pictures from my digicam seems such a
more intuitive method than cam2pc and I can also crop and perform basic
editing on images too. The slide show is wonderful as is the split
viewing window for comparison purposes. Firegraphic might even allow me
to get rid of IrfanView, and that's saying something as I'm a long time
devotee of IrfanView!

The only this I prefer about cam2pc so far is the printing options which
seem a bit better suited for my needs and easier to adapt. All in all
though, if I had to choose one (which I will as I hate having multiple
applications to do basically the same thing), so far it will be
Firegraphic.

Thanks again for the mention of it Bob :-)

Well, damn. So it has. This software is so polite it doesn't pester you with
updates. I have the latest now. Thanks.
