Reply Group is the one to use, shouldn't be any real possibility of that
going wrong unless there is something wrong with the server and that's by no
means impossible <g>

Check your "Views" menu... I use the setting "Hide read messages" otherwise
it gets cluttered but setting it back to "Show All" brings back all posts as
far as I can tell.

Of course messages don't post immediately and when they do you won't see
them until you either refresh or leave the group and come back, but once
stuck into a thread they shouldn't change... I think if they do it has to be
the server.

Charlie,

Many thanks - sounds like we might be using different
client software. Only available options are <<New Post>>
<<Post Reply>> <<Reply (email>> <<Forward (email)>> -
hence <<Post Reply>> selected.

Cannot find a <<Views>> menu - simply access newsgroup via
browser and Microsoft front-end
(http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/)

Left plenty of time for messages to post - plus cleaned
cache. I've just remembered something I did which may have
been responsible. I had difficulty printing the message
before sending so hit <<Forward (email)>> and got a server
error message. Following this used <<Post Reply>> which
appeared to work OK and got a confirmation ... though
perhaps server more upset than evident <g>.

Once again, appreciate your response and good to see
things appear to be working OK again. Thanks.

Denis

Den,
Using Outlook Express will make it MUCH more convenient to read and post to
newsgroups.
See: http://resident.resident.home.mchsi.com/newsgroups.htm
Or http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/resources.htm

Try it... you'll like it.

Don & Charles,

Brilliant - you're right I like it! An excellent tutorial - very
clear/informative/well illustrated
(see Charles had a hand in it).

<<Hide read messages>> makes navigation/message location far more managable.

Plus ... have also (mysteriously) located missing thread&messages! Wonder
whether
Outlook might be more effective at rebuilding damaged threads??

Once again, many thanks.

Hehe sorry, went off at a tangent there... I usually look in on both IE and
OE news groups and thought you were using OE. Duh!

Charlie

Not at all Charlie - Glad you pointed me in the right direction!

btw Is it possible to set number + time parameters for collecting older
messages as the optimum of 1000 messages seems to cover less than 2 days?

Denis

These groups do get rather a lot of posts I admit, although I always seem to
keep up with the 1000 alright, being on Cable helps I guess.

You can set mail collections for x minutes as I expect you probably know....
you can do the same with newsgroups by looking in the account properties and
checking the box marked "Include this account when sending or receiving",
however this can cause a bit of confusion with newsgroups since if it
happens after you begin composing a reply or a new message OE remembers the
last server addressed and gets confused when you come to post.... does that
make sense? Ask if not.

Tools>options>general tab is the setting I thing you already know,
tools>accounts>news>highlight account and properties to get at the "Include
this account" thing. I don;t like using that but if you only check you email
in the fist setting once a day it would probably be okay if you leave OE
running.

There are various other options allowing you to "Synchronize" with the
newsgroups but I think that's a persona preference thing. If you try to
create a clone of the groups you use your disk space but it's real useful
for searching... it's for you to weigh up how much space you want to use.
Considering this group in particular searching is a bit redundant since it's
often the same questions and Tom Koch created www.insideoe.tomsterdam.com
specifically to collect all the useful answers together. Same for
http://www.mvps.org/

Hope this helps, I'm sure others will come back with views but a lot is
personal preference and there's no real right or wrong way. Play with it and
see what suits you best.

And delighted to be of some help even if accidental <g>
