Different Wallpaper for Lockdown

Hey Gang,

How do I have Windows display a different Desktop wallpaper when I lock the
computer than it does when I'm using it?

Thanks

Hi Dave,

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop

In the right pane, double click Scrnsave.exe and replace it with the
screensaver of your choice following this format:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\logon.scr

/top10faqs.htm

Ok, yes this would be for the Welcome Screen. Would have to test if it can
be changed for those not using the Welcome Screen.

/top10faqs.htm

It can. Just edit the wallpaper line (in HKU\.Default\Control Panel\Desktop) to
point to the wallpaper of your choice. It will show during logons as well as
locked desktops. Once logged on, the normal wallpaper chosen by the user will
show.

No, it might not work since when you lock the desktop, the user is already
logged in and the per-user settings are already loaded in explorer. Locked
means simply "Locked" and not logged out. Hence i believe that it would not
work. Gotta give this a try right away.

If it works on logons, it will also work for locked desktops as well since it

| Hi,
| Though i have not tested it so excuse me if i am mistaken, i dont think the

| for logons...but doubt it for locked desktops since the user is already

Matter of fact, you're right. Funny thing was that the first time I tried it, I
had used the same wallpaper as my desktop. This time I took it out just to see
if it didn't show the desktop wallpaper and you were correct. Oddly though,
since I am using litestep as an alternative shell, the wallpaper didn't show up
the first two times until I changed the wallpaper to bmp format instead of jpg.
After that it used the desktop's wallpaper when in locked mode. I haven't been
able to duplicate it since, it might have been a quirk that resolved on it's
own. Oh well.............

Just had it using the different wallpaper instead of my desktop wallpaper when
coming out of hibernation, but not in standby mode which used the desktop
wallpaper. This is getting weirder and weirder by the day.............

Well, I've been hibernating the laptop 4 times now, and the results weren't
consistent. But what is consistent is that the different wallpaper *will* show
if you do a reboot or shutdown/restart. Other than that, locked desktops show
the desktop wallpaper, but coming out of hibernation, sometimes it showed the
desktop wallpaper and other times it showed the logon wallpaper before showing
the desktop wallpaper. Standby shows the desktop wallpaper as well. That pretty
much summarizes every combination I've seen so far.

simply lock the desktop(winkey+L).
