Can you tell me if it is possible to have different
prefences etc for different users on XP Pro.

I have 2 users, and several programs that run
automatically, like MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and
ICQ. But I only want those to autorun on one account. I
installed all the packages after the users had been
created to one of the accounts, but they try and run on
both accounts.

Applications that start with Windows can be found here:
- the WIN.INI, section [windows], entries "run=" and "load="
- the Registry keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
- the folders
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\{username}\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP

As you can see from the list we have two types of startup locations:
those for all users (ALL USERS folder or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE branch of
the Registry) and those for single user profiles. Arrange your startup
settings in the different locations so that they fit your needs.
