running outlook 2002 with Windows XP.
I have my own mail account that only I read, but would
like another one without reference to my name for that oh
so special email.
I've gone to tools/options/mail setup/email accounts
i've filled the requiered parameters, including user name
and password as negotiated with server, but when i go to
test account settings, i get "unable to send test
message.please verify the email address field".
I've changed the part before the @ but still kept the
rest the same. Also, i've noticed that when i get mail,
both addresses get copies.
What to do, what to do!
Can anyone help?

The best you can do is to create two mail profiles for Outlook. Each will
have it's own mail store than. Goto Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show
Profiles and create a new profile. Also set is to prompt you for what
profile to use when you start Outlook. For the connection problem; please
try again with the just suggested setup. If you can't connect you have a
problem which is independent from your other question. Just post a reply
then :-)

Depends on yr ISP's mail setup.
Can you have seperate addresses and passwords or is it a catchall account.
Do you have yr own Domain?
The user name is usually the mail name.
Depending on the type of 'oh so special' you risk getting inundated with
spam.
Why not use Hotmail or similar?

thanks for the input Roady
ok, went to control panel, pretty much saw there what i
saw in tools in outlook. I also saw where you were
pointing me to, the add profile and i did, no probs.
I'm still getting that check address, which should be my
new one i created, right? If i check the regular one i
have, THAT works.
user info is where i put a new nick and a new email addy,
with the same info after the @ but new nick in front,
logon info should be what the server gave me, which is
the same as the regular working one i have (or do i have
THAT part wrong?)I've also put the same pop and smtp
info as the regular profile.
internet is connected, as shown above...so i am at a loss.

DL,
I'd love to use hotmail or other accounts, unfortunately,
they can't handle large files. I also use mail washer for
outlook, which to date is working wonderfully.
as for seperating addresses and passwords, that's just
it, i don't know if it's possible or not. All's i was
told was that I could have up to 5 accounts. A friend
uses his server assigned logon and password for all his
email, but he has different addresses assigned to that
logon. yes, the user name is the same for both.
I wish I could get my point across a little more
concisely, but i'm in the dark, hehe! Bear with me,
please.

You're welcome :-)

The From field isn't visible by default. When using Outlook as e-maileditor
you can press View-> "From" Field in a new message. With Word as editor you
have to press the little downarrow on the Options... button.

I don't think you can narrow it down anymore since your original address is
the primary address for your account (you ony have one account) meaning that
messages will be send with this address. You can use my method to display
your custom nic or edit the reply address (in Options-> Have replies send
to:). In the last config messages will still be send from your primary
account and messages won't contain your custom nic but replies are send to
the address you configures and you won't have to use the From field.
