I have been using Linux for years but I am now a new Windows user. On
Windows XP I am using Outlook
for my email and when I set up newsgroup reading Outlook put me into Outlook
Express for reading newsgroups.
I would like to use a different editor for replying to newsgroup messages. I
searched through the various
options but could not find any way in Express to define another editor, such
as Vim, to be used. Can someone please
tell me if I can define another editor for Outlook Express, and how this is
done. Thanks.

No, you can't. You can use any newsreader you want - set the default in IE's
tools, options, programs to your preferred newsreader and if it's not
listed, add a shortcut to it to Outlook - either on the outlook bar, the
shortcut bar are add a hyperlink to a toolbar button (tools, customize).
