I have a report that shows component quantites for different devices. This
for will check to see what is on hand and how many we need for the quantity
that we are building. Is there a way for this report to show the negative
quantites in a different color than the positive quantities?

You posted in a "reports" newsgroup, so I'll assume you are talking about
generating a report.

The first and (sorry if it is too) obvious question is whether you have a
color printer -- a requirement for a report to "show the negative ... in a
different color..."

Take a look at the Format property. As I recall (but long ago and far
away), there are four "settings" in that property, including one for
handling negative quantities.

Set the Format property of this control to:
# [Black];-# [Red]; 0 [Black]

Thank you very much.
