Different battery types for battery chargers?

This isn't really 100% computer related, but I do need the batteries for my
mouse and camera... : )

I have a charging station for Alkaline batteries. I have a number of
rechargable Ni-MH (Nickle Metal Hydrate) batteries. Can I safely recharge my
Ni-MH batteries in this charger? Would I also be able to recharge Ni-CD
(Nickle Cadmium) batteries with this charger?

Any info or links are appreciated!

Thanks!

No. The only types of chargers that can charge NiMH batteries are
NiMH only chargers and Universal chargers. The built-in chargers and
older charging stations will only charge the battery type it was meant
for, no others as they lack any sensing hardware to differentiate
them.

If your unit is a Universal charger, then you can charge NiCd (Nickel
Cadmium), NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride), and rechargeable Alkalines, but
not all at once. All the batteries have to be of the same type for
the charger to detect what it's charging and supply the right current
and voltage cycling.

If you're not sure, the bottom of the charger will usually tell you
what kinds of batteries it can charge. My old Dynamat NiCd charger
and my newer Ray-o-vac Universal both have a caution warning listing
the battery types the charger will support -- the caution part being a
warning not to use other types or bad things will happen.

Do a Google search for battery chargers. A wealth of information.

I know that most NiMH chargers say NO to NiCD, a vice versa.
