Difference between list and autofilter

Can anyone tell me the difference between the autofilter option in olde
versions of excel and the "list" option in Data in the 3002 version?

I am trying to create a dropdown menu for lists and people with olde
versions of excel can't seem to use the custom "list" feature I hav
put in. Though they don't have "list" seems to mean it is the sam
thing as an autofilter, just more automated to set up. Am I missin
something?

I haven't worked with the List manager in XL03, but in MacXL01 and v.X,
the List Manager, in addition to applying an autofilter, can

-automatically apply validation to fields (columns)
-automatically and dynamically apply autoformats
-automaticaly and dynamically add formulas in calculated columns
-maintain and update totals
-automatically update pivot tables based on the list
-automatically update charts based on the list
-restrict entries to unique values
-maintain column headings so they don't get sorted or filtered
-maintain a totals row that can have just about any function (e.g.,
average, sumif, etc.
