Firstly, this is not a group for home-user OSes, it's a
group for those of us developing embedded devices such as
set top boxes and in my case a phone switch buffer. If
you'd read a few posts before posting, as nettiquette says
you should (I understand that even using the
word 'nettiquette' marks me out as an Old Fart nowadays)
you would have realised that this is not an appropriate
group for the enquiry.
Secondly, what software came with your machine is an issue
to be taken up with the vendor. If you do not want to use
Lotus, you can uninstall it and, if you return the media
to the vendor, you may be able to get a refund and
possibly an exchange for Works or Office, but this depends
on the vendor and the Lotus licencing.
If you want Word or Works you'll probably have to go out
(or for that matter go online) and buy it. I believe that
WordPad is included in XP, however, which is better than
nothing.
Students get Microsoft software cheaper, but a quick look
at Amazon com shows that the standard non-student non-
upgrade edition of Office 2000 is about $355 though Works
is about $40. Word on it's own is $310. You may be able to
get something cheaper by buying second hand on amazon or
ebay and so on.
