Hi All,

Did Vista change the way ping responds when it can not find the
remote host? Usually ping will tell you that it could not find
the IP you entered, not some other IP (the local machine's IP).

Many thanks,
-T

Sounds like routing issue. Is the 192.168.1.106 the local computer? Or
this post may help.

Ping 192.168.1.101 but the response is 192.168.1.107

Hi Robert,

I did an "ipconfig /all" and everything looked like
it was suppose to. (I am not at the customer's site,
so I can not copy you on it.) The default router
pointed at the cable modem router like everyone else
on the the network. All the XP machines ping'ed fine.

The Vista machine in question seems to work fine in
every other respect, including printing to network
printers using TCP/IP Standard ports.

I figured it was a "Quirk" of Vista. Can you ping
a nonexistent IP on your "local" network and see
which IP address it gives you back?

Many thanks,

If you have correct TCP/IP settings, it could be 3rd party software. You may
try to start the Vista with clean boot.

Oh, you know what? The customer "never" powers off his machine.
He just puts it into standby. That being the case, nothing is
what it seems. I will start having him to turn the thing
off at night. Then I will retry it.

Thank you for the tip.
