running windows XP home edition on a dell 250.
I have an old Gateway monitor and was changing the resolution, then
restarted the computer after the updates were done.
when I re-stared it I heard the music windows opens with (I know it loads I
just can't see my desktop) I have a black screen?

I have tried to go into safe mode but after I select safe mode all I get is
a black&white screen with what looks like lines of different commands ,I
can't remember what they said something like this....
(Example::: windows/system(2)/programs(0)\applications /drivers:word)
and nothing happens so I restarted the computer....and try another optionin
after I push <F8>

I have also connected a newer monitor to the hard drive but it still does
the same thing when I turn it on.

please, does anyone know what I can do to solve this problem?
thankyou very much.

It sounds as though you have set an incorrect screen resolution...

Persevere with trying to boot in to safe mode, the writing you describe
above is normal, just be patient.

When you get in to safe mode, change the resolution back.
