Gateway Windows XP Home Edition. Had to do a system restore,
but all MS
Office products were factory loaded, so I don't have CDs. How do I get this

And specifically what do you mean by "System Restore"? Exactly how did
you do it?
Look in the documentation that came with the computer, or contact
Gateway for help.

To make a very long story short, my "computer forgot its name," and I "system restore" in "accessories" was removed. All Gateway applications were removed. I even went into DOS. I also lost all internet capabilities. When I called my provider, and told the tech the error I was getting, he said that he had heard of that error before, but had never encountered it. He sent my problem "up one level," and they told me to reformat and restore my operating system. The error, which I can't remember right now, stated that the computer couldn't find a specific file it needed. So, you see, my avenues to do a restore from Windows or Gateway were eliminated.

your computer with a most
recent restore point you have.
double check you restore
calendar and see if you have
a restore point for today or
yesterday.
if so, then restore away.
afterwards, let us know what
issue(s) you were trying to
resolve with an old restore
point.

The error message was "RPC Server is Unavailable".

things to fix problems, but to no avail. If I remember correctly,
"the computer forgot it's name," and a file I needed was "gone". The
problem(s) took away my internet capabilities, too. The tech at my
internet provider said that he'd heard about my situation before (the
error message I was getting), but had never personally encountered
it. Everyone I spoke to said to reformat my hard drive and to
restore my operating system. I couldn't use "system restore" from
"accessories" because it was removed by whatever hit my system. I
have tried to contact Gateway, but they never respond.
