I closed a document and chose not to save changes. Can I retrieve th
document as it was before this mistake was done?

On the macos platform something called rewind exists that will rese
your computer to the stage before you did the mistake, though no
perfect is there something like this for windows.:confused

In a word, no. The changes you make to any file in any program are held in
memory until you save, when they are written to disk. If you chose not to save
then the file is written to disk as it was at the last save and the memory is
(should be, if the program is any good) flushed. So your changes are lost.

I don't want to raise your hopes, but there is a very tiny chance of
recovering the file as Word can make temporary files as you are working, for
recovery purposes. I guess it might clear them when you save your file (or
choose not to save it), I'm not sure.
I don't know any more than that, but if the changes were particulary
valuable, it might be worth looking down that road...

Anyone know more about Words temporary files...???

I suggest you don't open that file again until you make a decision on what
you want to try and do with it. (You could make a copy and continue to work
on the copy)

There is something like this for some of the later versions of Windows, but
it does not handle people throwing something away without ever saving it.
