Did My D: Drive Die On Me?

After I installed Lavasoft Spyware remover, I ran it and got rid of some junk
on my computer. I ran it again because I didn't get to remove everything the
first time. While it was running the 2nd time, I was looking through files on
a CD in the Explorer (Right click > Exlpore all users > D:), then, all of a
sudden, the D: folder closed and that was that. I removed the selected
spyware and closed Lavasoft and proceeded to open the D: drive up to look at
the files on the CD again...But D: drive was gone off the list. I took the CD
out and put it back in - nothing. I tried putting a music a CD in and still
nothing. No start-up noises, no automatic opening of the files. Nothing. D:
drive is completely gone off the list of files to explore. I've taken out
several discs and put them back in, still, only having the tower to release
no noises letting me know it's looking through the CD.

I restored the objects I had removed from Lavasoft, thinking one of the
things I removed messed it up and restarted. Still not working. It's like
it's dead.

Is it? Or can I fix this? I need help! This is so scary to think my D: drive
is dead! And if this is posted in the wrong section, let me know, too,
please...I haven't been here for a while. Thanks.

Does the BIOS see the drive during boot?

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS MEANS.

Ok then. at this time, if you're not comfortable with stuff like 'BIOS',
which starts getting into how computers work, that's fine, but you will
probably need to speak to a local computer repair shop.

To find out if your problem is related to the clean-up job you performed
with AdAware, we're going to need to know the name of the 'junk' it removed
from your computer. Removing some forms of spyware can produce your
symptoms, as can a CD drive that breaks down (hey, it happens!), or a faulty
or loose cable.

As you say the problem occurred when you were removing stuff with a spyware
removal tool, it seems likely this is related to your problem, but you'd
have to remember the names of the problems that were being fixed, or else
we're all just shooting in the dark here.

Rob

Like I said, I restored all the spyware back.

Right now, the D: drive is working and is back on the list, but my taskbar
keeps "resetting". It's not closing my windows, but when I have a folder
open, it does it. Not when I have only programs open. The taskbar flashes and
then disappears, leaving my open windows and then comes back less or no icons
next to the clock.

I don't know if this is related but it was happening when I was trying to
get my D: drive back earlier.

ok then. so if you run the spyware/adware remover what does it say is wrong?
Anything there? (don't remove it just yet, lets just look around for now).

I have no idea what each spyware bug is by their names or what they do, Most
of them are described as log trackers or cookie trackers. Everything is being
shown as "low" in urgency.

Yep, but someone here would probably know if you posted them. Don't worry
about the cookies.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS MEANS.

During the bootup you normally get a listing of the memory and hard
drives in the machine as one of the messages that goes by early in the
boot sequence.

It's possible you have a machine that simply displays an image during
this time. There's normally a way to get rid of the image but it
varies.

Things that show as low aren't going to be a big deal and deleting
them isn't won't mess up your system. If that's all you've got I have
a hard time believing that removing them caused you any trouble.
