Did MSAS implant InstallShield

I am having problems with a software programme called "InstallShield".
InstallShield advise contacting the vendor who supplied me with their
programme. Was this software implanted on my computer when MSAS was
installed?

Hi Jean;
Nope, MSAS is innocent. InstallShield is now owned by Macrovision (our copy
protection friends)... and usually is involved with the install and/or updating
of Multimedia content services or products. My own InstallShield was installed
by a Sonic Software install of CD/DVD burning software. You can view the sorce
(like Sonic) within the .ini files burried within several nested folders in the
InstallShield folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\InstallShield\UpdateService\Database

You may need to enable hidden files to see these .ini files:
Open My Computer > goto 'Tools' on the top bar> then click'
Folder Options' > then goto the 'View' tab, make sure that 'Show hidden files
and folders' is enabled. 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked
& 'Hide extentions for known file types ' is not checked then press apply

You can set this back later by opening the same page and pressing 'restore
defaults' then pressing apply,

Thanks Dave, that gave me a clue as to where to look next. I have now found
that InstallShield was originally provided by Dell on their Resource Disk.
Unfortunately that disk was provided for Windows ME and I have since changed
to XP SP2, consequently it won't install on SP2. I have now contacted Dell
for advice.

InstallShield is a program that developers use to install their application
onto a system so they don't have to create their own installation program.

I know for a fact that MSAS uses Windows Installer (Microsoft's own
installation program), not InstallShield, to install MSAS. So it's likely
the problem you are having is with another application that you are trying to
install or remove. I'd suggest calling or e-mailing that company's support
to see if they can help.

If you are trying to unistall something and are having problems doing so,
you might have to reinstall the program that's giving you the problems, and
then try uninstalling it.

Agreed. I suspect Jean may be seeing an error that we regularly see here,
and which has some simple solutions, but we'll need more info to find out.

Jean - it would help if you could describe the problem you are seeing.

There are a number of installer-related issues with Microsoft Antispyware,
and I can't tell whether what you are seeing is typical of these, or
something completely unrelated, because you haven't described the problem in
any detail.

My mistake.

InstallShield is used to create the installation packages for almost every
MS product. However, InstallShiled IS NOT installed when you run the
installation/setup file for ANY application.
