I've been debating purchasing some AV, I currently have a version I
inherited from a friend who got a new PC with anotherAV. Its been a yr
now and have been pleased with VirusScan Pro 7.0 except for 2 things.
One is that I use XP pro in a multi user environment so the fast user
switching is a problem. Its only a problem for Mcafee not anything else,
unless your a virus, then its my problem.
Two the software wont scan when I tell it to, like 1:00 am( if I'm not
logged in). So if I reboot after several days it wants to run when I want
to use the PC....STUPID!
Long back, we used Mcafee 4.0? at work on a win95 system( PII300) and it
could take anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hours to run on my machine. I could
reload windows in a shorter time frame! So running it at night to keep
the Hardware IT folks happy was important. I carried the habbit over! At
least I tried to with this software on this OS.
My question is, does VirsScan 8.0 fix these problems? Does it create more
problems? Prompting for unimportant things is a problem for me. I like
7.0 because it NEVER prompts me for a thing! Well not entirely true, its
prompting me to renew all the time.
I really dispise the fact that companies in their infinite wisdom decide
that, even though your phone number is unlisted, they will call you and
solicit phone services. If this Mcafee is going to prompt me for "stuff"
when they think I need it for added security and I cant turn it off, I
will dump them like used coffee grounds! Unlike the phome companies,
there are alternatives.
We should all charge them for advertising to us when we pay for the
software. Its my ISP service, its my computer and my time! If I want to
know about your products I'll go to your website! Dont force me to listen
to you. Free speech works both ways; you have the right to speak and I
have the right not to listen!
Enough of my BLOG.
