Hi

I am sorry if this is too far off topic but I don't know of anywhere
more appropriate.

I am looking for a reminder prog that will alert me a few days before
an appointment. In MSDOS days I used something called remind2 and it
was perfect but I don't think that it would work in XP.

Does anyone know of something that will do the job - I don't use
Outlook.

I thought my experiences with this topic might be helpful.

I tried several small applications but they were badly behaved. Then I
tried a giant of a programme that wanted to be like the "vast eternal
plan" from Fidler on the Roof. It was called Electronic Assistant v4.
It was big (12MB) compared to the successful candidate (766Kb).

After 2 whole days with EA I never managed to insert a single
appointment and save it. On the second day I handed the challenge to
two mates who also failed miserably.

The successful candidate was Ajour. Within 2 minutes of installing on
my secondary computer I had inserted an appointment and saved it. I
believe that if you can't insert and save an appointment within the
first 5 minutes then the design must be poor. It should be so obvious
that it is staring you in face.

I complained to Danteproductions, but they just sent me an indignant
e-mal withdrawing their licence and forbidding my use of their prog,
and all my friends and relatives and neighbors as well. There was
nothing to suggest that it was a beta version under development and
I'm sure it wasn't.

Won't Outlook's Calendar work for you with that? Or maybe the
Journal? Outlook is great for appt reminders, and very flexible.
Plus, you already have it.

I was thinking of an idea where if you notice the "time & date" function on
the bottom right hand corner of the personal computer, and where you double
click on the time icon, and the calendar pops up in a small window. so now
you have the present calendar month showing & the clock on the right, so with
that in mind, take your arrow mouse and drag from the calendar showing, a
certain day of the month, for example, april 13th of 2005, drag the 13th from
the calendar and create an icon on the desktop. we can rename it whatever
we want, also maybe there could be a bigger appointment icon on the desktop
and we can drag the day of the appointment into that visible appointment
icon. so you can customize the icon to put up a message, lets say a day
before, or 12 hours before, or 3 hours before, or just simply email you
personally or call you on your cell phone to remind you, in a voice
activation.
