I am no longer getting a prompt to disconnect after quitting a IE (or OE)
session. Does this mean there is an application running in background using
the connection?? If so how can I tell what it is and close it.

Currently I have to remember to right click the appropriate system tray icon
and disconnect that way. For a forgetful silver surfer the present
situation seems like an ISP's dream! Thanks for any advice offered.
(Note my email address is fictitious.)

Birkonian,

My guess is that you (or someone/thing else) has changed a setting within IE
that affects this prompting.

First, make sure that you are not currently connected to the Internet.

Click on the Tools|Internet Options menu item and a dialog box is displayed.

Click on the 'Connections' tab and you will be able to see a group of 3
option buttons, which relate to how the application (IE) connects to the
Internet - this also affects how OE behaves.

What you will want to choose is the 'Always dial my default conection'
option. Then, click the OK button.

Next close down IE and start it up again. When you haved type in a URL,
the prompt you wanted to be
displayed should be visible!

HTH

Rob, Thanks for the response. I have (always had) the settings you
advise. But surely these relate to connecting to IE (for which I have no
problem) *not* the conditions which generate a disconnect prompt??
