Dialup connections

I bought a Compaq 5310 with Windows XP already loaded by the store as a demo
model. Ever since I bought it, I have lived with a problem. That problem
is as follows.

I was able to create dial-up connections. But when I go to Start-Connect
To-Show All Connections, none of the connections show up there. All I have
is Network Setup Wizard, New Connection Wizard, Local Area Connection 2 and
Local Area Connection 3. The way I have been able to get around it is by
copying my "Internet Access.pbk" to the desktop. When I double click on
that, I am able to choose the connection that I created. Then, after
connecting, the icon does not show up in the taskbar. To disconnect, I have
to open the phonebook again and click on Hang Up.

Now, I have tried to show all icons in the taskbar. I have tried to check
the box about showing an icon when connected. Nothing works. Does anyone
have any ideas?

Thanks,

I had the same problem and fixed it by removing the nic card from device
manager and this fixed my RAS connections.
