I've heard of some trojans and a virus called LoveLetter that would cause
some odd things with dialog boxes. Have you scanned your machine for
viruses? What did you find?
How long has the dialog boxes not closed? Are all dialogs affected, or just
certain applications? Do you remember installing, or anything odd happening
when the problem started?
You could try doing a SFC /scannow to refresh your system files:

I'm running windows xp but am unable to close my dialog
boxes. Anyone have any suggestions? Supposedly I had that
