Dialog boxes disappear by themselves

I recently moved. I've had my computer in storage for a while. Almost as
soon as I connected to the Internet, I got the Sasser worm. I cleaned it
off my system, but in the process of trying do fix my problems, I've
encountered a new, odd problem. Some, but not all, dialog boxes disappear
before I can interact with them . The dialog box I have for McAfee, to run a
virus scan, comes up but disappears before I can request anything. When I
try to install a newer version, no matter how fast I am at clicking, one of
the dialog boxes along the way disappears and I cannot continue. Tonight I
tried to update Windows with service pack 1. I downloaded it but when
trying to install it, I can't answer the question fast enough and the
installation dialog box disappears and I can't continue.

What could be causing the dialog boxes to disappear like that? Thanks.

You have a virus, get on a second computer and create a virus boot disk
set. Then boot up your computer with the virus boot disk and use them
to scan for virus.
You can order SP1 from MS free or download it to burn to a CD-R/W to
install it right after you disinfect WinXP. When you are scanning and
updating your computer make sure it is disconnected from the Internet,
LAN's, Wireless devices and/or the phone line. Only after everything checks
out OK, install SP1 and configured the fire wall do you reconnect to the
Internet or LAN's.
Since IE is like a naked virgin in a room full of drunken sailors to so
much spyware, malware and virus' switch your browser to another like the
CERT team says.

Also, you could try killing the process if you know what it is that is
causing the problem. I am going to assume that it is killing Task
Manager as soon as you get it up to prevent you from doing this, but
stick with it until you can pull up the processes tab. Eventually you
should be able to find the name of the process causing all the problems.
Go to http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/pskill.shtml and use
this program to kill the process. Then clean out your registry, start up
folder, etc. and run your AV to see if anything can clean it up.
