Dialing Contact Directly from Outlook

I have a RJ11 line connected to my laptop.
When I go to "Actions" and have it dial a contact, it seems to try and then
states "the call cannnot be completed as dialed".

I have troubleshot as much as I can... any ideas why this is not working?

Not an Outlook issue. This is the Windows dialer. Examine the dialing rules
that govern how the number is dialed.

Hey Russ,

I am still trying to squash this bug I have where every time I try to have
OUTLOOK dial a number it tells me that another telephony device is using
OUTLOOK and I should come back later when it is finished. It's driving me
nuts! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Only you would know what else you have installed that has taken control of
your modem.

Precisly, and that is NO OTHER program, that I know of. That's why I'm so
befuddled.

No more so than we. But we would have less chance than you of figuring out
what else is taking control of your modem. You're not trying to dial out
while using a dial up connection to the Internet are you? Do you have any
fax software that is configured for autoanswer?

Russ,

I'm using a DSL connection for the Internet, so that's not it. I can't even
use the FAX on the desktop because of this problem, so that's not it. It was
working a while ago, but I can't remember if it stopped working after an
install of something, but I don't think so. I'm fairly knowledgeable about
computers (30-plus years) and I now have the laptop performing this function,
so I know how to set it up as well. But this one is really a puzzler. I'm
wondering if there is a program that lists what other programs are doing.
Device Manager maybe?

Thanks for the help, I sure hope we can solve this, it is one of a very few
bugs left in my system. I was an Amiga die-hard until 2001, (never had to
deal with Windoze '95 or '98) so I only have about 4 years in on Windoze 2000
Pro and XP, and I'm learning new stuff everyday...wish I had a life.

I can't think of anything else to try. As I said, this is in no way an
Outlook issue. I'd try one of the telephony groups.

Russ,

I found a couple of newsgroups with the word "Telephony" in the name, but
didn't get any action on my question, kind of forgot about it, and then I
found myself here and saw you and figgered I try again. Is there a local
telephony group on this BBS that I should be talking to? I'm about to
upgrade to XP Pro and I'm hoping that will fix it. It really is one of the
last bugs in my system.

A workaround would be to config the network so that the desktop used the
laptop's modem to dial out. Need to find out how to do that. Then it
wouldn't matter a whit how long it took to find th answer. MS Support wants
thirty-five of my beans for the answer, and I have NEVER paid for support, I
gotta solve this!

Look at the windowsxp groups. There are several possibilities there.
