Russ,
I'm using a DSL connection for the Internet, so that's not it. I can't
even
use the FAX on the desktop because of this problem, so that's not it. It
was
working a while ago, but I can't remember if it stopped working after an
install of something, but I don't think so. I'm fairly knowledgeable
about
computers (30-plus years) and I now have the laptop performing this
function,
so I know how to set it up as well. But this one is really a puzzler.
I'm
wondering if there is a program that lists what other programs are doing.
Device Manager maybe?
Thanks for the help, I sure hope we can solve this, it is one of a very
few
bugs left in my system. I was an Amiga die-hard until 2001, (never had to
deal with Windoze '95 or '98) so I only have about 4 years in on Windoze
2000
Pro and XP, and I'm learning new stuff everyday...wish I had a life.

No more so than we. But we would have less chance than you of figuring
out
what else is taking control of your modem. You're not trying to dial out
while using a dial up connection to the Internet are you? Do you have any
fax software that is configured for autoanswer?

Precisly, and that is NO OTHER program, that I know of. That's why I'm
so
befuddled.
