Dialer Works, but is silent

Problem with both OL2K and OL03 on WXP Pro.
Ever since I changed from external to internal modem some years ago, I have
not heard the dialing sounds - which is confusing. Other than that, it works
well. and I often start phonecalls that way.

I replaced the modem and no joy. So investigated more.

When I use the dial-up to connect to an ISP, I hear the dialing sounds.
(Normally use Cable ISP).

When I boot to WMe (it's a dual boot machine) I get the dialing sound on
both the dial-up to ISP and on the dialer. It seems to me that proves the
hardware can do it and points to OL as source of the problem.

Tried a bunch of setting changes, including prefixing the appropriate AT
command - still no joy.

Any Suggestions welcome.

the modem software should have an option to mute the sounds. Have you tried
using the modem without outlook to see if you can hear it?

Control panel, phone and modem options, Modems tab, select modem, Properties
button, Modem tab.

Hi Diane,
Thanks for trying to work on this.
Yes, I do hear it (as, for instance, in the third paragraph of my post).
