Since using XP dialing up is real pain. So often it
promt's user name and password and then disconnects
saying it was unable to establish a connection. I have
two dial ups and its the same for both. Once I re-enter
the password it often works. I have 98 on another cheaper
old pc & it works perfect. ( does anyone know why? after
entering the password it looks a lot longer than the one
you entered.

It's not XP that is having the problem.
It is your particular computer / modem that is the problem.
I, like millions of others use a dial-up connection with XP
with no problems at all.
As for the password, XP adds additional characters as a
security measure to hide the actual length of the password
to make it harder for others to try to discover your password.
