Sometimes after I sign off MSN Explorer, it
says "goodbye" and I notice that status indicator is
still active. I've just watched it for an hour, trying
to figure out what is running. Picked up the phone and
it still has modem tones. I have Windows XP Home. Zone
Alarm Pro, McAfee online, Spybot, and PestPatrol all find
nothing wrong. Also, when I'm online I am constantly
receiving data, even when I am doing nothing but sit on
the Home page. It recieves about 10 meg per hour.
Something besides me is in control Help!

See www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Startup Programs Tracker. This
small utility scans your system for startup programs and running processes.
It also allows you to create a log file that can be copied and pasted into a
newsgroup post. The contents of the program window are also copied to the
Windows Clipboard, automatically.

Thank you. I've run the startup programs tracker, and
here is a copy of the log. Does it tell you anything?

I'd start with making sure you're logged out of Messenger when you close MSN
Explorer. Also disable BigFix. It could be doing its job in the background
when the computer is idle.

Hello,
I have the same problem! I'm currently running MSN 8.0. ZoneAlarm shows
MSN connection activity even when idle (using 80-90% of dialup
network)... It could be auto updating to MSN 8.5 or some .NET passport
sync? The MSN customer service rep. that I spoke with couldn't help or
even understand my problem/question (barely spoke english). XP firewall
is on and all critical XP updates installed. Strange¿?
