I've checked for things like firewalls and the listening computer is checked to say allow users to view my network. Ive set both machines to use the same workgroup. Hardrive is fully shared and viewable when on a lan. I've checked things like DCHP supplying address etc etc and everything seems ok but obviously something isn'

I don't want to control the machine just to access the hardrive so i can map it so i can access the data remotely

Any insights and solutions would gratefully appreciated

Try using the UNC... From "Help and Support"

******************************

Universal Naming Convention (UNC)

A convention for naming files and other resources beginning with two backslashes (\), indicating
that the resource exists on a network computer. UNC names conform to the \\SERVERNAME\SHARENAME
syntax, where SERVERNAME is the server's name and SHARENAME is the name of the shared resource. The
UNC name of a directory or file can also include the directory path after the share name, with the
following syntax: \\SERVERNAME\SHARENAME\DIRECTORY\FILENAME.

Thanks Al that worked great but another quick question pleas

Comp A = dial in compute
Comp B = recieve call compute
Comp C = computer on same network as Comp

Is it possible to view the files on Comp C from Comp A using same metho

I tried typing \\comp B\comp C and also tried \\comp c

I tried making a shortcut to a mapped comp c which was on comp B but that didn't work eithe

Any help once again greatly appreciate

Many Thanks
Steve

Try using the IP of C.

\\PC-C-IP-Address\Share

\\192.168.0.25\Share

Hello Steve,

Seems like i have the same situation as yours. I just want to connect two xp professinal machines via 56k modem & phone line only, with no isp, or dsl, to transfer files. Can you tell me how you set up your machine. I used to be able to do these with a win 98 machine to anther win 98 machine
